WHEN A FAMILY MEMBER PASSES AWAY

When a family member passes away, it’s a very difficult time for you and your family. Often in this emotional time, family members do things in haste that they later regret. Here are five things you should not do until you have time to talk to an accountant and your attorney.

  • Put your child’s/children’s name(s) on the family home
  • Take out a reverse mortgage
  • Allow one family member to move into the family home without a rental agreement
  • Immediately sell or give away personal possessions and cash in stocks or sell property
  • Distribute property and pay bills without the help of tax and legal advisors

Hope this helps you, and please contact me if you have any questions or want more details. Take care!
